What Is Acupuncture?

 How Acupuncture Feels

Acupuncture is a medical practice that entails stimulating specific points on the body. Traditionally acupuncture is done by penetrating the skin with fine needles to alleviate pain or to help treat various health conditions. The acupuncture therapy developed a millennia ago in China, recent studies conducted by scientists from around the world have found that acupuncture is moderately effective in treating many conditions.

Acupuncture needles are extremely thin, and virtually painless when inserted. On some areas of the body, you won’t even feel their application while other sites may produce a tingling, hot, cold, or aching sensation. These are all signs that your Qi has been accessed and is now moving. Many patients say that they find their treatments comfortable and enjoy a huge sense of relaxation afterwards.

 Acupuncture For Pain Management

  • Cervical disk herniation

  • Tennis elbow/golfer's elbow

  • Muscle pain, spasms, fibromyalgia

  • Sciatica: lumber disk herniation, canal stenosis

  • Back, knee, ankle, ribs, hands and feet pain

  • Depression and anxiety

  • Chronic fatigue syndrome

  • Irregular menstruation

  • Gastrointestinal disorders,                  gynecological problems, and sexual dysfunctions.

According to the National Institute of Health, a number of studies suggest that acupuncture works particularly well on chronic pain such as back and neck pain, osteoarthritis/knee pain, and headaches.  Acupuncture is best-known for its ability to treat acute and chronic pain by the hair-thin needles that are comfortably inserted into certain acupoints, your endorphin levels increase while your pain response decreases, providing the body with a sense of well-being similar to post-exercise euphoria. Your energy flow, or Qi, is dynamically balanced in the process, giving you a greater chance to enjoy optimal health.

Pain management doctors & specialists such as physicians, physical therapists, and chiropractors usually recommend acupuncture as part of their overall pain management plan to help reduce or eliminate inflammation, pain, and stiffness due to injury or common health issues.

Cold Laser Acupuncture is a very safe treatment that utilizes specific wavelength of light to stimulate the healing process while using low levels of light.

 What is

Cold Laser Acupuncture?

Cold Laser Acupuncture is completely painless and while some patients may feel a sensation of energy shifting in their body, the majority feel nothing at all. All of the same points that may be used in a Traditional Acupuncture treatment can be used in Laser Acupuncture and sometimes even more, for example those in highly sensitive or tender areas. If you have ever wanted to benefit from Traditional Chinese Medicine treatment for a health condition but are hesitant due to the use of needles, Laser Acupuncture is a great option.

How does Cold Laser Acupuncture work?

Benefits Of

Cold Laser

During the cold laser procedure, the acupuncturist applies different wavelengths and outputs of low-level light directly to a targeted area which the body tissue absorbs. The red and near-infrared light cause a reaction, and the damaged cells respond with a physiological reaction that promotes regeneration.

Superficial tissue is commonly treated with wavelengths between 600 and 700 nanometers (nm). For deeper penetration, wavelengths between 780 and 950 nm are used. Although you will feel the laser device touching your skin, the procedure is painless and noninvasive. There will be no sound and you’ll feel no vibration or heat, with each treatment typically taking only a few minutes.

Cold Laser Acupuncture is great for sports medicine and physical therapy practices. The cold laser therapy can be used for minor injuries and sprains, such as:

  • neck pain

  • lower back pain

  • knee pain

  • muscle spasms

Our Acupuncturist uses cold laser therapy for clients who are uncomfortable with needles. The low-level laser beams can stimulate your acupoints the same way needles do, but without piercing your skin.

  • ligament sprains

  • muscle strains

  • tendonitis

  • bursitis

What Acupuncture Needles Do We Use?

We use high-quality needles that are both sterile and disposable. Whether the needle is used for body acupuncture or auricular acupuncture, the entire length of the needle shaft is coated with a micro layer of FDA-approved bioinert silicone to aid in reaching target depth and to minimize discomfort.
